Year in Review

Ah, 2009. It’s nearly over, which means I thought it was time for the obligatory “year in review” post.

My first instinct is to say that 2009 was a good year – and by all accounts, it certainly was. It started off on a high note when I officially graduated from grad school after doing quite well in my classes. It was also a little bittersweet since graduation also meant saying goodbye to friends who were moving away or back to their home states.

2009 saw me fulfill a lifelong dream when I finally took a trip to Ireland, which turned out to be the best trip I’ve ever taken. Ireland not only met my expectations, but it also exceeded them. It’s not something I’ll forget anytime soon. I also had the opportunity to travel to northern California, to visit Sonoma County wine country and San Francisco. I was able to spend quality time with my CA brother and sister as well as my niece and nephew.

Summer and fall of 2009 became one of the busiest times of my life, as I juggled work, friends and family with very little time to myself. K and B were married in July while D and D were married in September. My twin nephews turned five, my brother ran a marathon and finally I accepted that I can’t hide away like a hermit, even if I want to.

This was the year I fully embraced Twitter and blogging (and started this blog in particular). I even “met” some truly wonderful people as a result and started to build an online community for myself. And as a result of all of that, Kristin introduced my to the idea of a Love List, an idea I’ve taken to heart with some pretty incredible results.

2009 saw me set some pretty lofty goals for myself, particularly within the scope of my “15 before 30” list. I didn’t make much progress on the list, but I also understand myself better now and creating the list in the first place gave me the motivation I needed to push myself forward.

It wasn’t a perfect year. I made mistakes. I fought with people and had arguments. I lost my grandma when she passed away unexpectedly. But overall, I’d have to say it was a good year. I’m ready for it to end, but it was still a good year.
