Love List 2009
Posted on | December 30, 2009 | No Comments
In many ways, 2009 was the year of the Love List. Even before I knew about the idea of a love list, it seems I was already moving in that direction. A lot of the decisions I made earlier this year seemed to push me towards doing things that I loved.
I’ve written twice before about my Love List, first when I started and then when I added to the list. Here are some final 2009 additions:
I love…
- The way certain holiday smells stir up specific childhood memories;
- The first snowfall of the year – it’s always so magical and makes me think anything is possible. I’m still amazed that frozen rain/water turns out like that;
- Being the introverted one in my family – I like to sit back and just watch them interact and knowing I don’t need to say anything;
- Christmas – absolutely everything about Christmas: the sights, the smells, the sounds, the stories, the memories, the traditions, etc;
- Having time to myself after a busy day or a long trip; I like having the chance to catch my breath, regroup and refocus on myself; and
- Writing as a way of processing what I’m thinking, what I’m worried about or sad about, or even what I’m happy about. I like seeing the words on a page or screen and I like being able to go back and rework those words until they are exactly what I want them to be.
It feels appropriate to end 2009 with a wrap-up of the things I’ve discovered about myself, my world and everything else in between. The Love List has really given me a way to understand myself better, to know more about what makes me who I am.
I now know how some tangible things can trigger powerful memories. I know that I need to be active about pursuing some the things I love and I can’t just sit back and wait for good things I happen. I need to make them happen. And, most importantly, I’ve really come to appreciate the need to celebrate the good things in my life, even when life itself isn’t so good, because that’s what’s going to get you through.
So here’s to 2010 and a year full of things to love.
